A court in Paris has found guilty ten people for carrying out the cyber-bullying of Brigitte Macron, the spouse of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.
The accused individuals faced accusations of disseminating fabrications regarding her gender and sexual orientation, in addition to posting hurtful comments about the pair's 24-year age gap.
The court delivered conditional custodial sentences of a maximum of eight months to the perpetrators. The detailed judgment has still to be made public.
A persistent unfounded claim alleging that Brigitte Macron is a trans woman has spread widely since her husband's initial election in 2017.
This latest legal outcome in France is concurrent with the Macrons engaging in a libel case in the United States against right-wing influencer Candace Owens, who has repeatedly shared similar conspiracy theories about the first lady's identity.
Their complaint states that Owens ignored all credible evidence disproving her claim choosing instead to platforming known conspiracy theorists.
Owens has often echoed these assertions on her digital program and online platforms, and in March 2024 declared that she would stake her entire professional reputation on her insistence that Mrs. Macron is biologically male.
Brigitte Macron initially encountered her current spouse when she was a teacher at his secondary school.
The couple entered into matrimony in 2007, when the then-29-year-old Emmanuel Macron was 29 and she was approximately 54 years old.
